On 23rd February 2026, Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA), in partnership with Oxfam Malawi, Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN) and Media Institute of Southern Africa, successfully convened a Macroeconomic Diagnostic Workshop aimed at deepening understanding of Malawi’s economy, historically, its current state and what the future looks like.
The workshop brought together representatives from civil society organizations,political parties, faith-based institutions, associations, unions, and otherstakeholders to discuss Malawi’s current economic performance and the roles various actors can play in advancing sustainable and inclusive growth. Discussions focused on the economy’s four sectors namely: Real, Fiscal, Monetary and the External sector after which participants proposed various solutions to the challenges associated with the four sectors.
The workshop forms part of the broader initiative under the project “Enhancing Economic Awareness to Empower Decision-Making in Malawi,” which seeks to strengthen economic literacy and encourage evidence-based policy dialogue. By equipping stakeholders with practical economic insights, the initiative aimedto enhance knowledge, making sure that decision makers are making decisions from an economically informed point of view.
